If you saw my previous post, it was a poetry written by a good friend of mine, Mira Joe. From her poem, I would say she described about sadness.
What is sadness? Basically sadness is one of the human emotion that all of us go through at some point of time. To feel sad is a natural reaction to situation that cause us to be emotionally upset or pain. Sadness is temporary and it would fade away. And remember, sadness is NOT depression.
Talking about sadness, it brings to my mind a Pixar character from the movie Inside Out and yes the character's name is sadness. Inside Out is an amazing movie. Its about the inside of a 11 year old girl. Writer and director Pete Docter was inspired by his pre-teen daughter and came up with this animated movie to help us understand the emotions involved in our daily lives.
There are 5 characters in this movie:
Joy: A cheerful, petite, yellow lady
Sadness: A morose blue blob
Anger: A short, red rectangular shaped figure with a masculine voice
Fear: A thin, tallish purple figure
Disgust: A green slithery female character
And guess what, the hero or should I say heroin of this movie is Sadness. When I watched the movie, I find Sadness annoying because of the tone, the gloomy effects but what to expect. After all, the name itself brings about so much. But towards the end of the movie, it was Sadness who saved the day.
A brief narration. A 11 year old girl, Riley, was kinda stressed out after her parents moved from Minnesota to San Francisco, separating her from her friends and bringing her into an al new environment. So the movie displays the emotions Riley went through. At one point, Riley ran from home. As the movie progresses, Joy and Sadness get sucked into a tube and lost contact with the other emotions. Without these two emotions, there is a unstable reaction faced by Riley.
The torturous journey is then filled with moments of exhalation as Joy and Sadness attempts to take charge of Riley's emotions again. Throughout the journey, Joy undermines Sadness as a damaging, negative emotion. However, in the end, Joy realize the importance of Sadness, the natural emotion in the face of loss and the one that helped Riley appreciate loving bond and return to her family.
So you see, Sadness is not always bad. Sadness is a key emotion that allows us to process changes in life. Sadness sometimes makes us realize the bonds and love we have around us. When we are all happy, we often forget about crucial things but when we are sad, it gives us time to realize so many things that we tend to ignore and later regret.
