Movie Review: Soul

The poster
I and most definitely a big fan of Disney and Pixar. They way they construct the animation, the storyline, it literally takes me to an imaginary world. And yes, I know I'm kinda old for cartoons but I do get excited though. Recently due to the lockdown, a friend recommended that I watch a movie by the name of Soul. I have seen the poster of this movie and I expected a lot from this movie, simply because its Disney and Pixar.
But, I wasn't really sure that I like this movie though. I'll break it down for you guys.

The accidental switch
Desperate to get back to his life, 22 leads Joe to Moonwind, a mystic who helps lost souls get over their obsessions. Moonwind asks Joe to locate his body through meditation and eventually, they discovered Joe's body in a hospital. Being so impatient, Joe jumps into the portal and he accidentally pushed 22 in too. Joe was relieved at first but then he realized, his soul was in a cat and 22, was in his body. The movie then shows the panic, the drama and other stuff.

22, Joe and Moonwind on a ship
In order for them to switch back, Joe and 22 had to find Moonwind on earth. I actually thought Moonwind was dead but no, he's some guy with a board dancing at the corner of a street and he is really into his thing till he state of mind and soul travelled to another world. Hahaha...Along the way, 22 experienced things for the very first time and by the time they were supposed to switch back, 22 had a sudden change of mind and decided that she wants to live.

Joe performing in the gig he always dreamed of
Actually the movie is a similar concept of heaven and hell. Only that they show before you begin life and before you head to the after life (The Great Before and The Great Beyond). So heaven and hell, the real deal, the good and bad, isn't really displayed here.

Terry, an accountant who counts souls who goes to the Land of the Dead
A character by the name of Terry keeps records of souls ones they died but he got suspicious and lost count when Joe returns to earth. So Terry went to earth to find Joe and eventually he caught Joe during his chase on 22.
The trick for this souls to begin life on earth is that they have to fill their badges with 'sparks'. Its like a thing they like or something they're good at. Once all spaces are filled, an earth logo would appear. In the end, 22's badge showed an earth sign but neither Joe or 22 knew what caused it to change.
Being upset, 22 handed the badge to Joe's soul who then returns to earth thinking is life was back to normal. So Joe performed his gig and he thought it was going to make him the happiest man alive. But nope, it wasn't as he expected. He still had to repeat the same routine everyday. Realizing his senseless and selfish ways with 22, he decides to return the badge. Inspired by the objects she collected while in his body, Joe plays the piano to enter the zone and look for 22. And somehow 22 was convinced and she flew down to earth. Joe decides he's fine with dying because he was able to live out a dream. As the movie's about to wrap up, however, Joe's given a second chance to live because of his good deed. Good for old' Joe, right?
All the while, Joe thought that spark is the purpose of living but he realize that spark simply means the soul is ready to live.
But it's not all that bad. There was adventure but just a pinch. To me the movie emphasizes more on appreciating life as it is. You know, just live the life you have. YOLO concept. It didn't got me to imagine more like the other Pixar movies. I did like the colours and settings in the Movie. The city, the characters, they look attractive. But that's based on my opinion lah, maybe you guys might have a different point of view after watching it.
Here's the link to the movie. Enjoy :)
