Lifespan of Insects

 Lifespan of Insects

Have you ever wondered about a lifespan of insects? Some insects such as Butterflies have four stages of life process which is from egg, larva, pupa and adult. Other insects like Grasshopper only have three stages which is egg, nymph and adult. Basically the length of insects depends on their species, life process and also the temperature outside.

However, there are few insects lifespan is only 24 hours. First one is Mayfly, this is a very common insect where they always occur during rainy season. It is attracted to the light and the next day morning, only their wings are left on the floor. Most Mayfly male adults only live for about 24 hours. Mayfly can be found in all around the globe with more than 2000 species out there. Another trait of male Mayfly is that they can’t feed, instead focusing on the reproduction system.

Next, the male reproductive ant. Male reproductive ants are born from unfertilized eggs. Male reproductive ants can only live up to one or two weeks which is a huge difference where the queen ant and some species of ants can live for 30 years. Despite having a short life span, they play a big role in the colony where they mate with the queen ant and often they’ll die after mating.

The male mosquito also encounter the same as the male reproductive ant and they only live about a week or two after they become adult.
